Nick’s Military Background
Nicholas John Zangara was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1982. He grew up in Philadelphia and attended George Washington High school. He enlisted in the Army in 2000 and served in some of the most troubled parts of the world. Nicholas served mostly in Germany and Kosovo in the former Yugoslavia and dedicated his spare time to helping underprivileged children. After a tour in Kosovo, Nick was deployed to Kuwait and then to Iraq in support of IRAQI FREEDOM.
On July 24, 2004, he was killed by an improvised explosive device that was detonated near his convoy vehicle. He was buried with full military honors and was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal and War on Terrorism Medal.
